Actually, the deer hit my truck, taking out the left side of the bumper, one headlight, the left front quarter panel and the left front fender. It also dented the hood and bent the driver's side door so much that it only opens about a foot.
Luckily (?!) Patrick and I were uninjured, the truck was still drivable and we were able to continue to the Vineyard. We even made our ferry on time. Woohoo.
I had been planning to write a blog post this week about how much I love my truck. It has never let me down, which is more than I can say for any other piece of farm equipment I've ever owned. It's also really comfortable to drive. Lord, I love that truck.
I'll take a picture of the damage tomorrow so you can see it.
Now, I'd like to take a moment to apologize to the deer population of the Northeast for whatever it is I have done to earn your wrath. I like deer. Honest, I do. I've never hunted in my life and I couldn't care less when you all come down into my yard and eat every single Tiger Lily. Patrick gets a little miffed about the Tiger Lilies, but as far as I'm concerned, they're all yours.
Truce?

Hopefully you're at least even-steven! Yikes!
SOOO glad that you and Patrick are okay, if not the truck (poor thing). And the deer.
You've been having a time with those deer! Thankful neither of you was hurt...sorry about the truck! How did the deer do?
Sorry about your truck, glad you're okay and sorry about the deer. I hate it when that happens.
I hit a turkey about a month ago, cried. Watched a deer get hit on my way to Rhinebeck on 84, cried. That deer almost made it too. She got all the way across 84 and just as she leaped for the safety of the opposite shoulder, the car in front of me clipped her back hindquarter with the corner of it's car. Poor deer went flying and I cried all the way to Rhinebeck.
so lucky the deer did not end up on your hood and in your window! The deer are trying to tell you something, hmmmm....
Susan,
On behalf of the Northeast Chapter of the United States Camaraderie of Deer I'd like to take this opportunity to apologize for the few rogue members who have recently been, quite against Camaraderie Policy, crossing the usual Deer-Human Divide to meet you. We have had several committee meetings about this and have in no uncertain terms forbidden our members from doing so, but unfortunately we can't be on top of all deer at all times.
I would like to take this opportunity to express some concern about one thing. You seem to be under the misguided impression that these encounters have been made in anger, or possibly as a threat. I assure you, we deer (and I am confident I am speaking on behalf of everyone here) have nothing but the HIGHEST respect for you. In fact, ::blush::, you're a bit of a celebrity among us. These two deer were really only trying to meet you, perhaps to shake your hoof or get you to sign their horns (this seems to be the trend recently among the young males- don't ask me, it seems scandalously inappropriate!) and I would just like to make it very clear to you that they truly meant you no harm.
We take these breaches very seriously in our organization. Please be assured that the appropriate action will be taken and that no deer will approach you in the future.
Thank you for your understanding (and, while I'm writing this, I'm sorry I can't resist- I'm a HUGE FAN!)
Yours,
Fuzzy Buckhorn,
Chairdeer of the USCD
