Party Details Here

The MVFF/HVFF Holiday Party is shaping up. I thought we were going to have to cancel it due to the fact that we can't get a wood stove installed in the church for love or money. So instead of having an open house in the new yarn shop we are having an open farm and bonfire to celebrate solstice.

The party will take place at our farm house in Hopewell Junction but this an outdoor event, so dress appropriately. The plan is for the party to start at 2 p.m. and end around 6. We'll light the bonfire before it gets dark at 4:30 and roast hot dogs, pop popcorn and make s'mores over the fire.

There will also be live music, an outdoor tree to decorate, door prizes and a contest for the Ugliest Holiday Sweater and a Most Beautiful Finished Object created with MVFF/HVFF yarn. Like an office party but with people you like, fun stuff to do, good food and lambs and kids. Not like an office party at all come to think of it.

I have gotten a couple of questions already via email:

1. Yes, we will have yarn available for sale, but only cause you asked.

2. Yes, you may bring your friends, neighbors, family members, Uncle Bob, and kids. Just rsvp ON THIS POST so we can get a head count.

3. Yes, you can bring something. (My what a gracious guest your Mama raised! Call her right now and thank her for giving you the gift of manners.) We're calling this a sort of modified potluck event because I know some of you would rather show up nekkid than empty-handed while others will be traveling from too far away to successfully carry a covered dish. (Outside the mac and cheese zone if you will.) So if you'd have the time and the follow through to bring something please let me know.

Please bring your knitting and or spinning if you like and a chair. WE NEED CHAIRS DESPERATELY.  You might want to bring a flashlight as well for walking back to your car but we'll have a few on hand.

4. Nekkid dancing around the bonfire is strictly optional.

Hit me with an email if you have more questions. susan at mac dot com

How is it possible that you are having this amazing party on my 30th birthday and I am too far away to come to it!!!
Good company, knitting, animals, bonfire, smores....seriously, I don't know what could be better :)

What could be better is if you were able to come Trinty! We will raise a glass of mulled wine to you though.

Well, you know Mom and I are coming! And Dad if we can convince him (questionable). And Chappy sure would like to come (despite the carsick thing), so count him in.

Hmm. I've never been to a bonfire before! I'm thinking I'll probably be wearing my warmest handknits, yes?

And, mmm, mulled cider sounds good. And yes, I definitely want to bring something! I'm better at baked goods than at pot-luck dishes, though.

And I'll tell you right now we don't own a single folding chair. Though, there's no way I can bring my spinning wheel if I can't sit down. Hmmm...

This sounds FUN!

I'm going to have Patrick hit up all the neighbors for chairs Deb so bring that wheel.

I'm going to try to drag along a friend or two - but don't know if it will be just me or 2 or 5. That's helpful, isn't it. I will however bring something edible. Now, maybe it's just me, but won't it be a little cold for knitting/spinning? I can't manage it with gloves on yet, and I think my fingers will be numb without. But I'll bring it anyway just in case.

Sadly it's a bit far for me to come this time. :(.... And complicated by the fact that we're hosting a big party here on the same date. ~~Hilary in Germany

I'm hoping that there will be a sort of zone of warmth around the fire where will put our chairs, Joan. I can't stand being cold, so I will be wearing layers upon layers upon layers. Upon layers.

Perfect timing. I arrive from Hong Kong the day before! If I'm not half-dead from jet lag, I want to come! And I will bring something to share, though I don't know what that will be yet.

Sadly I can't come either, but work and distance make that an impossibility. That being said however, I will definitely be there in spirit! I will knit when it's quiet at work and send forth all those good knitter-ly vibes to all of you!

Especially the nekkid bonfire dances to help you keep warm.

My BF and I would love to come! But...do you have to be a shareholder to attend?

Susan said...

Oh, thanks for asking Emily! I should have addressed that in my post. The answer is a great big NO, you do not have to be a shareholder to attend. We'd love to have you.

Sounds like it'll be an awesome time, my Mom and I will definitely be there!

In addition to Patty and I both my husband Bob and son Matt have said they'd like to come, so we'll be four. We'll bring chairs and something home cooked to eat, I don't know what yet.

Alas, I can't seem to think of a way to tell husband and sons that I'm skipping the concert we have tickets to at the same time and coming up there from here (Central Virginia) for the party. I'll be there in spirit, though!

I will be coming. Not sure about the family, but count us in for up to 4 people. We will bring a dish.

BTW, did not mean to be anonymous. This is Margaret from Scarsdale.

Bonfire? You really are an Aggie! lol. We'll bring as many chairs as we can. In fact, we have some fest table benches (from our days in Germany) that we can tie to the top of the car if you think you'll need them. We have four and they are probably about eight feet long.

I will SO be there! Unfortunately, I will be alone as everyone else will be in NYC. I will attempt brownies to add to the Luck of the Pot, and I will also load up some chairs (assuming I can find them...)

Yipee!

Thanks so much for the invitation! We won't be able to make it this time, but we hope you have a splendid time!

Susan - We can't wait. Never been to a bonfire before so am looking forward to that as well.
See you soon with bells on (maybe literally..lol)

I found some carpool company so it's a definite yes for me plus two guests. We have our own chairs and I will bring some homemade marshmallows for those s'mores.

I can't wait. Is it the 19th yet?!?! What can I say, I'll be there! And I'm bringing anywhere between another 3 and 5 in tow with me. Did anyone say "Stacy's Chips"?!?!? I can bring a few bags along; some to share and some for Susan's personal stash. I can even bring a sweet thing or two, email me and we'll talk!

Office parties would be SO much better if there were lambs involved. ;-)

I'll be there! And I'm bringing Jim with me! We will need to leave before 6pm because we have plans later in the evening, but hopefully we won't miss too much of the fun. Can't wait!

Hi Susan-
Add 3 please! I'm so excited, I can't wait! My daughter will be coming this time as she will be home from school so yippee! She was so bummed she missed the fiber fest in April. Gina

Oh, and we have a bunch of folding chairs, so we can bring two for ourselves and some extras too if you need them. Let me know!

We will also bring something to eat -- we're coming from too far to bring anything hot, I think, unless I come up with some sort of awesome insulating system, but we'll see what we can do. Do you want to know specifically what we're bringing? I can think on it and get back to you.

Sounds like a very fun party. Have a great time.

We will definitely be there. I would like to RSVP for 4 although it is very likely that my 13 year old son will opt for electronics rather than watching his mother squeal, clap her hands, and jump up and down over the goodness that is MVFF. Will bring something to share, although I will have to investigate what will travel well from NYC. Can't wait!

are you going to take lots of pictures for those of us who can't make it?

Susan said...

Better than that! We are going to set up the lambcamb so ya'll can see the bonfire live!

Anonymous said...

I will be there along with my three others (4 total). I will bring something as well, probably something baked like cookies, muffins and the like.

Hi Susan,
I'd like to come to the holiday party, with my husband and son (almost 2 y.o). 2 questions on what we can bring - are wine and a dog ok? I'm not sure if my 15-lb mutt can make it (weather dependent), but he loves traveling and wide-open spaces (we live in Queens). I don't think he's ever seen anything resembling a sheep, but I can assure you he'll certainly keep his distance. I can only rsvp as a maybe, however, as my toddler has taught me (there are no definites in parenting!)
hopefully we'll see you in a few weeks :)

Susan said...

Natasha, you are all welcome and wine is A-ok!

Anonymous said...

can't wait!! the whole family is excited... 4 in all. we'd bring the dog, but being a border collie, instinct would probably prevail and we'd lose him to the sheep! so we'll bring some yummies instead!

Heidi said...

What about little UWS dogs? Will Gulliver be receiving vistors? Mr. Smithers would love to come but he really wants to just sleep in the big bed like his blog friend. Even if Mr. Smithers can't attend will Gulliver be making an appearance?

I rsvp'ed for my me and my family earlier but now my sister and her daughters are dying to come so there will probably be about 6 or 7 of us but we will bring chairs and munchies. Very very excited ...

My friend Monique and I will be traveling down from the Berkshires. Are you short on anything? We will bring our own comfy chair and a couple of blankets, as well as a dish or two to pass. Can't wait!

My husband Scott and I will definitely be there!! I am so excited to see the sheep and meet all you wonderful people. So that's 2 more for your list! We will do our best to bring a couple of chairs if we can scrounge some up!

thanks!
