Remember when I blogged about the Hats for the Homeless Drive Jean is sponsoring? Well, my mom and I have been busy knitting since I arrived in Texas. We have four completed and two more on our needles right now. Our goal is to have 8 done by the time I leave.
We've been watching the BBC series Foyle's War on DVD while we knit. I had never seen it and it's really, really good. It's about a police detective in England during World War II. I highly recommend it- see if you're library has them or put them in your Netflix queue.
Knitting and watching British mysteries in my PJs is my idea of heaven.
Back to the hats, though. I'm offering a 20% discount on yarn to anyone who knits five hats and sends them to Jean. And and free Martha's Vineyard Fiber Farm tote bag to the shareholder (or friend of MVFF/HVFF) who knits the most hats for the homeless.

you are too right about foyles war! sorry, but i promised hats in another direction. hope your pjs are flannel! i love flannel! don't tell anyone but the most senuous thing i ever felt was jumping into a bed with flannel bottom sheet and the pulling up a duvet of down encased in a flannel cover! ah, when the feathers and flannel floated down around my body...

Got lots of leftover yarn, make that closets full, and that looks like a super simple pattern so I'm in. Can you jot down just the basics for that pattern ? I know, I know, in your spare time...right.

Super-simple Heather. Just cast on 96 stitches (for a medium size women's hat), join and knit until you have five and a half to six inches. Then K14 decrease by 1 by knitting two stitches together and repeat to the end of the row. Knit all the stitches on the following row. Next row, knit 13 and decrease by one, repeat to the end of the row.
Keep up this pattern knitting one less stitch every time (does that make sense?) all the way around, then knitting the following row until you only have 48 stitches left. Then you can start decreasing on every row.
When you have six stitches left weave the end through the six stitches to close the hole.
Hope that make sense.
They aren't fancy hats but they knit up super quick and we figured it was the only way we'd ever get 10 done by the end of the weekend.
