Yarn Giveaway!

For most of us, this is crunch time. Around here, that means running around like a headless chicken trying to get last minute gifts, buying ingredients for our big holiday dinner and wrapping gifts like a psychotic elf. In other words, there is very little peace on my earth right now, and I suspect the same might be true in your house.

Let's start a new holiday tradition, shall we? Let's all vow to do something special for ourselves in the next 24 hours. Nothing spectacular- I'm not expecting you to ditch the extended family for a weekend at the spa or buy yourself that red Mercedes convertible you've always wanted. Just a little something to remind ourselves that we are worth celebrating and fussing over too.

I am planning to sit down in a comfortable chair for an hour this evening and read a novel. I am going to set my kitchen timer- and God help anybody who tries to rouse me for any reason before that bell dings!

What are you going to do for you in the next 24 hours? Let me know in the comments and you will be entered to win one gigantic one pound skein of cormo yarn in a lovely shade of kelly green.

A winner will be chosen at random at 6 p.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, December 24. One entry per person please. You need not be a shareholder to enter. Good luck everybody!

Wow, lots of sock knitting going on!
Well, I'm going to finishing a pair of socks too (for my DH) and listening to my audiobook, "The Yiddish Policemen's Union". Even though the socks aren't for me, knitting for others makes me calm and happy.
Have a wonderful Christmas and a happy new year!

I'm going to take a nap and find some time to knit a little bit, in between all the wrapping and cleaning and pie baking.

I'm going to sit down at my wheel and spin some lovely llama/wool blend roving for myself. I've been putting it off for months trying to get my Xmas knitting done. Now, if it's not finished, it's just plain late, so no rush :)
You should see this gorgeous apricot colored fluff, from a local CSA farm here in VT. Nothing can stop me, I get at least an hour, uninterrupted, hopefully 2!

Since I finished up the Christmas knitting at 11:30 pm last night, tonight, I'm going to put down the knitting needles, curls up under a blanket and spend sometime reading a book.

I'm going to be with family. It doesn't seem relaxing but, for me, knowing that I'm loved by all those people is truly a wonderful feeling.

Oh, and I might buy some yarn :)

Susan, I enjoyed skipping around your blog. Wonderful photos...made me forget for a few minutes how much I detest the snow here in CT until I saw the photos of you lugging the sheeps' water. Reminds me of my 'horse kid' days.

I've already given myself the 'hour for myself' today by catching an extra hour of sleep. But now it's time to pay! Hmph.

I also vote for listening to a radio program (world music on BBC 3), and reading or knitting for even one hour.
It will make a big difference to my mental state later on ...
Thanks for sharing yarn with your readers.

You know how Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are! Well, this year will be even more hectic as my son and little granddaughter are now living with us. He was laid off from his job so lost his apartment. I thank God that we have a large enough place for them to live with us and feel very blessed to really have them "home" for Christmas! My youngest son is in Bogata,Colombia, he is a teacher,so we will call him on Christmas Day as well as call my sisters in SC and MI. After the Christmas cooking and meal is over, I plan on getting in some spinning time and just enjoy being with my family.
Wishing you and yours the very merriest Christmas ever!

I love your idea to take time for ourselves. As for me, after making sure all my holiday obligations were completed, I went out yesterday and bought myself the makings for the Noro Striped Scarf I have been obsessed with making. So tonight I will be knitting something beautiful and watching lovely color changes, yet it is simple enough to still enjoy spending time with my family. Perfect!

I plan on sitting in my couch all warm and cozy and winding balls of yarn to swap out for my sock yarn blankie so I can pass the box on to the next person. Then I will start reading my new novel called "The Friday Knitting Club". I do hope its good.

Today I plan on sitting around and knitting until dinner. I have two more presents to get done before Jan. 3rd. Even though I'm not knitting for myself, I'm still going to relax with it.

I'm going to cut out early to spend the afternoon with a good friend of mine from university who is visiting. Wheee! AND I'M NOT EVEN GOING TO FEEL BAD ABOUT IT :)

WOW! Usually i am one of the first commenters and in the morning and i see over 200 people have beat me here !! smile As all holiday prepping (aside from the scalloped alfredo potatoes) is finished hubby said he would drive me around a little this afternoon so i can take some pic's with the new, new, newest snow falls. A few of the farms in our neighborhood look so lovely, the old field plows, Llams, alpaca, sheep...but hard to take pics if i am driving, and no shoulders to pull over right now. So he will help me out. Then plan to sit, relax a bit and knit with some holiday movies (we just got our tv back which has been out since the 1st) while daughter latch hooks like mad to finish her boyfriends gift. Have a great holiday!!!

I get to play in a Christmas pick up group tonight, which I always enjoy every year. All my knitting is done (yay!) and my wrapping and baking, so tonight is for relaxation and enjoyment!

I'll be finishing up a pair of mitts for a good friend in glorious alpaca and silk. And there's no rush as I won't see her until the new year.

I am going to take a bubble bath even if it only lasts ten minutes it will be heavenly. Now if I could only figure out how to crochet in the tub I'd never have to get out.

I'll be doing a little bit of shopping, a little bit of baking, a little bit of visiting and, I hope, a whole lot of knitting.

I'm planning my trip to Martha's Vineyard (we leave on the 29th) and trying to finish making the gifts for the trip. Harder than it sounds as I'm also having 2 parties before we leave :)

Merry Christmas!!

Finished my Holiday knitting - so toady I am going to put a fire in the fireplace and make some hot chocolate and enjoy just being quiet looking at the mad arrangement of ornaments that my children put on the tree- i let them decorate it without my help this year!

Loved meeting you at the Ravelry party in Rhinebeck!

I am going to sit down with my son and daughter and we are going watch "White Christmas" together - an annual Christmas event. Maybe we will even sneak in "Christmas in Connecticut" too!

I think I'll do exactly what you're doing. I have a big pile of books to read over the break - one for this book group, one for that book group, two to review and write discussion questions for work functions (I'm a librarian so reading books is work, too). I think I'll set the timer. I haven't tried that before. Thanks for the idea!

I'm going to start a new pair of socks for me. Between knitting for a craft fair and Christmas presents, I have not done anything for me in several months. I can't wait!

I'm going to insist that we leave a family party early enough to go to midnight mass tonight. It's my favorite Christmas mass to attend -- quiet, peaceful service, with a handbell choir and my favorite rendition of O Holy Night by the singer who sung at my wedding.

I'm going to see a good friend of mine from college. And maybe catch a movie tonight too.

I will sit down and find a pattern for a lace scarf or shawl for my milk yarn "Creamy". While doing so, I'll probably be distracted with patterns for sweaters, cardi's, socks and more. That's OK, because I've got yarn for those too.

Once I get the kids and hubby off to bed I'm going to turn out all the lights, except the Christmas tree, and enjoy some tea, the silence and the lights.

After finishing my last pair of Christmas present socks I am going to just sit in my chair and watch a movie. Of course, that's between baking 3 pies and making a dozen cream puffs for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day dinners.

Hi Susan! Oooh, this is exciting!

Hmmm...my next 24 hours are actually going to be so low key and peaceful I can't wait.
Have a couple more presents to wrap. Gonna bust out the glitter paint pens and add some final touches to the kids' stockings. There will definitely be some knitting done, mostly on my grandma's birthday present(She's gonna be 70!) and several cups a new yummy tea I found.
I have a few skeins of handspun to give a final wash to, and a dye job in need of a rinse. So I guess that gets added to the list as well.
All in between keeping the kiddos entertained and out of trouble, of course, LOL!

Cheers and Merry Christmas!

Have to driver across town after work to pickup a parcel at a DHL depot. Then drive back across town to pick up my significant other. We'll go home. I'll prepare some food, eat, knit a couple of rows to calm my knitting jitter and catch some zzz's. I'll be back up at 2am to get ready for work. If I am lucky it will not be snowing and will make it on time for work at 3am. I'll be done work at noon time and head back home, prepare dinner, then knit and prepare for our route for our own yarn crawl for boxing day... I think I exceeded 24 hours, but it will go by very fast. I hope to have some knitting done between now and year's end.

Cheers!!! Hope you have a wonderful christmas!!!

Today I am going to finish cleaning the house because the kids are coming in tonight from MD, then I'm going to finish watching "Tin Man" on dvd so I can get it back to the library, then I'm going to bake cookies and go to the Candlelight service at church. After that, we'll all go to Candycane Lane to see Santa and then come home and open presents.

I am in the final throws of finishing my dissertation. So on top of crazy holiday things I am spending every moment I can in the lab. But tomorrow I am going to take most the day off. I am going to watch what I think is the Mama Mia DVD that is sitting in wrapping paper under the tree and perhaps dye some of the roving to finish my husband's hand-dyed, hand-spun, hand-knit sweater. Happy Holidays to Susan, Patrick, the kiddos (human), the kiddos (goat), and lambs

I don't think I'll be doing anything special for me today - I've got a broken leg and a fractured hip from a car accident last week, so I've already got everyone fussing over me and waiting on me. I don't think I deserve anything more! What I will do is help out as much as I can, because that will make me feel better about myself (I can't stand being helpless and not be able to do anything myself).

I'm going to make hot chocolate and sit in front of the fire w/my wonderful husband for some much needed snuggle time!

I am going to take a nap as a break from the final push of Christmas knitting. I am one hat shy of being done and that is a very nice accomplishment considering I vowed to only give gifts that I made this year. The time leading up to this deserved nap included sewing, knitting, felting, canning cranberry apple sauce, and jewelry making. Whew. Going to nap now :)
Merry Christmas!

I am going to make homemade marinara sauce to serve with dinner tonight and have as leftovers in the next few days.

That may not sound selfish, but I find cooking so relaxing, and making something I've made oodles of times before ends up putting me in a sort of trance as I go through the familiar motions. I'm really looking forward to both making it AND enjoying it afterwards.
