Five More Things You Don't Know About Me

1. I went to culinary school at 33 years old and was one of the two oldest people in my class. I was a really good home cook before school but now I have a deeper understanding of the techniques and can really kick ass in the kitchen. Tonight, however, we are having grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup from a can.

2.I didn't learn to parallel park until I was 25. In my defense, I grew up in Texas and where there is nothing but room for parking spaces.

3. I am turning into my grandmother. In the last year or so I have developed a keen interest in mystery novels and crossword puzzles. If you ever catch me wearing tea rose perfume and asking delivery men to take their shoes off at the door, please, for the love of God, schedule an intervention.

4. I walk and talk in my sleep. Twice I have called 911 in my sleep and reported crimes that were taking place in my dream. When I lived in Washington D.C. I would sometimes wake up on the street in my pajamas at 2 a.m.

5. I enjoy driving long distances by myself.

I remember how absolutely shocked Jason was that I didn't know how to parallel park when I moved up here. I still stink at it but I can do it in a pinch.

Both my grandma's were into mysteries- the one liked Mrs. Pollifax and the other liked Hercule Poirot. Dad was very into Sherlock Holmes. As a result I like just about *any* sort of mystery. We've just started watching "Folye's War" from the BBC via Netflix.

Speaking of Texas, I can't wait to get my shipment of Jalapeno and Habanero peanut brittle compliments of Mom. Yum!

I love crosswords and I blame that on my dad, who was as old as a grandpa.

I can't believe you called 911 in your sleep! Did they believe it was in your sleep or think you were pranking them?

I'd imagine your cooking skills are leagues better than mine, without you having gone to culinary school, and WITH the possible exception of crepes. Because I KICK ASS at crepes.

I learned to parallel park when I was 16 and a half, right along with all other driving techniques, and while I don't mind doing it, I'm always reluctant to because I don't trust the car behind me to stop far enough back to leave me ROOM. I really hate when they pull right up behind you, blocking the space you want to park in. (And, seriously, I bet the car makers could get their bailout easily if they promised a "park" setting that would let you turn your wheels completely sideways so you could just slide right in.)

The 911 story is pretty funny.

And, the culinary school? How neat is that? I tend to want to learn everything possible from books--go to a class? Pish! There are so many better things to tdo with my time!

The sleep walking/911 thing is SCARY! Holy cow.

I like driving long distance alone too. That's probably because I believe me when I give myself directions. bwaaahahaha. Don't tell Dan I said that.

We miss you on the Vineyard! It's not nearly as much fun with you and the lambies and kids in NY - but I think they will do well in New York. Anyhow, I am thinking we might find a way for MVFF/HVFF(I like the V's)fans to recommend books to each other. I always need recommendations. I just read Dewey about the cat who lived in the Library in Iowa. A good uplifting story. Now what??? I need something absorbing...I can't knit ALL the time!

i can parallel park but do try and avoid it at all costs. My old jeep i could see all my corners on but this new jeep feels so much bigger (even though it isn't).
Ouch on the sleepwalking! scary really!
I love to cook and when younger thought it would be a cool career, but after working in the industry waiting tables for years...nope! opened up my eyes!
Lol at the removing shoes, but gotta love crosswords, i knit and do crosswords at work when it's slow...everyone knows where the puzzle book is stashed!

1. see the green eye monster...o, well, my op art cooking has served me well.

2. i still cannot parallel park...but then i am still in texas

3. i didn't know my grandmothers...but the story goes my dad's mom went a bit loco after his twin brother died...i think he divorced her long before his dad did. but i look like my mom and she looks like her mother. (i probably a bit loco but don't tell anyone)

4, i don't walk in my sleep for which dh is most greatful but do talk in my sleep which has been known to stress out dh.

5. i can't be trusted to drive myself long distances...after years of long distant bus drives (and not getting a driver's license until i was about 30, my body knows when it has been in the car x amount of time and just goes to sleep.
