Yarn Giveaway!

For most of us, this is crunch time. Around here, that means running around like a headless chicken trying to get last minute gifts, buying ingredients for our big holiday dinner and wrapping gifts like a psychotic elf. In other words, there is very little peace on my earth right now, and I suspect the same might be true in your house.

Let's start a new holiday tradition, shall we? Let's all vow to do something special for ourselves in the next 24 hours. Nothing spectacular- I'm not expecting you to ditch the extended family for a weekend at the spa or buy yourself that red Mercedes convertible you've always wanted. Just a little something to remind ourselves that we are worth celebrating and fussing over too.

I am planning to sit down in a comfortable chair for an hour this evening and read a novel. I am going to set my kitchen timer- and God help anybody who tries to rouse me for any reason before that bell dings!

What are you going to do for you in the next 24 hours? Let me know in the comments and you will be entered to win one gigantic one pound skein of cormo yarn in a lovely shade of kelly green.

A winner will be chosen at random at 6 p.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, December 24. One entry per person please. You need not be a shareholder to enter. Good luck everybody!

I plan to sneak in a little knitting time - just for me on my clapotis. It's been quite neglected lately.

Hi Susan - what I am going to do for myself, hopefully (weather permitting), is spend time with the rest of my family in PA. This is really something that I'm doing for myself as I get to be grandma and enjoy the company of my granddaughter (19) and my grandson (15).
Enjoy your book and maybe fudge a little on the timer :)

I am going to curl up with my cats on a blanket on the couch and watch White Christmas. That is my favorite holiday movie of all time!

I am going to knit (for myself!). I am finally done w/ the Christmas knitting, and present wrapping, so I am going to sit down and try to figure out my first lace project.

When I ditch the baby with my husband to take my shower this evening, I won't hurry so fast I still have shampoo in my hair when I'm done. In fact, I think I'll shave my legs.

Oh dear God, your Word Verificfation monkey wants me to type "ovulatot." If that's an omen, I'm not letting my husband anywhere NEAR me for at LEAST a week.

I'm going to be knitting socks for my husband and sneaking way too many Christmas cookies. Shopping...done. Wrapping...done! Bliss.

This evening I'm planning on sitting and knitting on my long neglected socks. I had to give them up for other projects and they are calling to me.

I plan on spending some time working on my short stories tonight. Just some quiet time with myself, a word document, and tea.

This is basically ridiculously preferable to wrapping presents - a task I truly do dislike. Thanks for the inspiration!

I am going to sit down on the couch, watch my guilty TV pleasure (The Girls Next Door), and knit on something that is for me, me me.

I'm going to sit down with my knitting and a hot cup of hot chocolate and enjoy my down time while I can... Christmas is at my house tomorrow night, and I only found out yesterday morning! Yikes

I am going to take a nice hot bath with candles all alone with the door locked. With a 4 year old I get walked in on a lot. So a peaceful hot bath/shower would be so lovely. With no child begging my attention. My husband is home tonight, so no worries of him being neglected.

I'm having a lovely day. I went for a walk, printed out a pattern for a sweater I plan to knit for my chihuahua Salt, and opened presents. (Early! I don't care! :)

This evening I have two things in mind ... 1) work on the nursing wrap I'm making for my about-to-have-a-baby friend, and 2) watch tons of episodes of "Big Love."

I think this giveaway is very cool! Thanks for posting it on Rav! :)

What I am doing for myself today is knitting a Christmas gift at my desk rather than doing any actual work! There's hardly anyone at the office so nobody cares. And it's nice to be able to cross something off the list. Merry Christmas everyone!

Right now, the best I can do for myself is to wind that skein of Malabrigo lace weight and knit on that Leaf Lace Scarf that I wanted to knit for some time now. That will give me a nice break from all that "must-knit" stuff that we all put ourselves through at the end of the year.

I feel like I'm cheating, since we don't celebrate Christmas, I stay out of stores between October and March (except for necessary forays to the supermarket), and I have been thoroughly spoiled already this month by family and friends. My only contribution to the holiday frenzy is that I always volunteer to cover essential services at work while everyone else takes off - makes me look good, and it's a nice quiet time to be at work and get stuff done without a lot of people bothering me. So for myself in the next couple of days, I'm going to finally finish opening all my birthday presents, and write thank you notes to all my incredible friends and my family.

First I must tell you, that shade of green is absolutely gorgeous!!!

This Christmas is fairly laid back for me already - just got married and moved to the west coast (BC), all our family is back east. So, just me and my new husband to cook for/celebrate with. In the next 24 hours, we do have to pick up some last minute groceries, but I'm also definitely going to cast on the second sock of my FIRST pair EVER! The first one went well, so I'm even more excited about this one :)

When I finally get in from work tonight, I am going to curl up with a glass of sangria and daydream about furry critters in coats and what I could finally knit myself if I had yarn of such a gorgeous hue, considering that I have yet to knit anything for me….

My indulgence (as odd as it sounds) was going to Acton Toyota to get the heat fixed in my car! I sat in the waiting room for 3 hours (!) and did some Christmas cards for an hour and the rest of the time reading my Clean Eating Magazine. Great magazine btw. It provided me with some down time away from home and whiny kids. 2 people I hadn't seen in a while walked in and I got a chance to catch up. All in all, I now have a warm and safer car - try driving down 495 with a windshield and wipers freezing over in the the snow. Kind of scary.......

Something I put off because of all my animal chores - I'm going to spin some fancy STORE BOUGHT roving! It's a gorgeous alpaca/silk blend that is crying out to me. And like you, Susie, I'm going to have to set an audible boundary with the kitchen timer. I got a lot done today, and there are still some things to do, but until I get some zero-pressure-to-perform time, it's not Christmas for me. So, off I go. After I feed the alpacas.

PS - warmer today - very little ice to bust in the water buckets. YAY!

Then I will be knitting about 25 more gifts which of course I can finish by Christmas in between cooking my parts of the three meals that I will be attending with my families. Then...well I'm sure I'll have a few spare moments to watch a movie, take a bath, walk the dog, and spend time with my sweetie. We came way too close to losing him this year, so no matter how busy and stressed out I get, I will never lose sight of how lucky I am this Christmas. Thanks for the giveaway, and happy holidays :)

I already did something - tonight I watched the daily episode of the Christmas calendar on TV (Denmark) with my boyfriend, and then later I watched Kung Fu Panda with him and my dad and brother.

I've been working like a fiend - at the store, and on my exam project. So no time for boyfriend or family (or cooking or cleaning or laundry). So it was bliss to just ... sit down and watch a great movie with the people I love.

Tomorrow I'll take a long, hot shower and knit on the couch until the rest of the family shows up. (Sadly, boyfriend had to go home to his own family, but we'll see each other on the 26th.)
I'm going to knit a scarf by Anne Hanson using a lovely toffee-coloured merino-tencel blend sock yarn - my brother gave it to me for my birthday!

After too many days straight of staying up too late at night to frost cupcakes, finish knitted gifts, weave in ends of knitted gifts, and wrapping 'em up cute, I scheduled myself a nap! I only had to work half-day today, so I was home before anyone else. I curled up in my favorite chair with a snuggly blanket and was out like a string of lights missing a bulb!

Jason said...

Ooooh pretty! Don't know that I'll have the ability to set aside time for myself in the next 24. Between working tonight and visiting family tomorrow, I'm booked solid! But if I could, I would knit whilst watching hockey.

I'm going to go rock climbing at the gym and then I'm going to sit by the fire, sip some wine, and knit for ME!

I am going to spend time with my daughter who just turned 3. We might open a few presents early, cook a few things for fun, and burn off some energy by playing in the pool (indoors) at our local Y. Just fun with the kid...nothing stressful. I will probably knit while she naps.

Anonymous said...

I am going to knit of course! :)

Mmmmm...time to sit on the couch, petting a pug--maybe Bluto, who's probably celebrating his last Christmas with us--and knitting on a sock for ... ME!

Happy holidays to all.

Since I have to work Christmas Eve and Christmas (PM shift) at a hospital, tonight I am going to spend time with my hubby and 2 dogs, probably watch a good DVD, sip a steaming mug of tea, eat too many cookies and savor every minute!

I think I might just sit under the Christmas tree with the lights on and a mug of hot chocolate for a bit, before the crazy gift-wrapping/laundry doing/packing frenzy I have to do later.

Susan,
Love your idea of me time. I actually was wondering today if I turned into Cinderella with no ball to attend and no prince. Just a husband and 3 sons in there 20's all home, so I can cook and spoil them.
Tis' the season! I think I'll give up on all and go start a new knitting project-thanks for the permission.

Mmm. . . I'm between projects (just finished another pair of toddler socks to donate), so I think I'll knit up a donatable scarf out of a nice thick and thin yarn.

I'm meditating, doing some yoga, and taking a nice walk.
Love the pictures of your farm in the snow.

We've been baking cookies and making candies. Tonight I'm going to sit with my family and watch a family favorite Christmas movie. Then I'm going to cuddle in a blanket with and audio book and knit. Tomorrow is Christmas Eve. We'll package up our cookies and drop some off at our local fire department and some friends' homes.

I plan on making some caramels for Christmas gifts, knitting and enjoying the snow. P.S. I love the idea of being a shareholder. I hope to buy a share or two in the new year.

what an awesome idea...i hope your hour went by nicely, and not interrupted beyond all belief...in the next day i'll likely waste a huge amount of time on ravelry LOOKING at knit stuff, instead of...ummmm...actually knitting...and then...at some point i will decide to step away from the computer and actually knit...yep.

happy festivus!!

I feel like I've been running since October 1. So I turned down all my invitations for Christmas day and am curling up on the couch with some good books I picked out. Even have a bottle of white wine chilling if the mood strikes me.

I think I'll knit a bit, cuddled up with my snuggly fleece blanket. I don't have anything going for myself at the moment. I should start something. Maybe I'll give myself a manicure, that'd be nice :)

my xmas season has turned disasterous - my daughter, who lived with her father, was asked to leave their home, so she's currently camping out with me while I try to get some agency/ANY agency to help us get through this. he doesn't want her back, but he doesn't want to give me custody. go figure.

so - my shopping is done, my shipping out of packages is done, in the next 24 hours, i'm going to treat my daughter and myself to a session at the tanning center, and we'll come out warm, and relaxed, in the middle of the wisconsin snow.

and hope stuff gets better.

merry xmas everyone... hug your kids, please.

My plans sound strikingly similar to many of the above and that makes me very happy. Christmas eve we curl up on the sofa, light a fire in the fireplace snuggle up with the fuzzy family members and watch The Bishop's Wife ( with Cary Grant.. sigh!) and relax into Christmas with a little knitting.

Happy Holidays to all!

I'm doing it right now--grabbing some time after the spouse and kid are sleeping, catching up on blogs and get started on the next sleeve of the sweater I have underway.

Well Susan, its an admirable gesture, but my 24 hrs will be extended to 48 hrs. My plan for "me" was to treat myself to a mud mask facial. Then a long soak (with candles to set the mood) in a hot bathtub filled with bubbles and Lubriderm oil while listening to my uncle's jazz cd. However, I worked late tonight, so it will happen on Christmas Eve, probably after I help my mom bake another pie.

Happy Holidays to EVERYONE (incl. the sheep!)

On Christmas Eve I'll probably be the last person at the office because my hubby has to pick me up (we only have one car) and he's working until 4PM at least. We are looking for some quiet time together in the evening. First we'll make dinner (probably a salad), then he'll tinker around on the computer catching up on news or blogging while I will do some spinning or add a few more inches to the scarf I'm knitting for him. Our idea of fun at home! Thanks for another great giveaway, Susan, and I hope you guys have great Holidays and a Happy New Year!

I just finished a hat for my sister, and now I plan to settle down with a season of House and start on a hat for myself. Tomorrow, my lovely boyfriend is coming over and we are going to make a gingerbread house! Then, I will spend some quality time with my mom, because she has to work on Christmas.

Happy holidays, and thank you for this lovely giveaway!

Well, I just finished making a giant batch of peppermint bark. Yummy.
Earlier, I went through my stash (about eight huge boxes) of shrunken wool sweaters, choosing several for different things. Tomorrow I will make my hubby and daughter each a pair of mittens with leather palms. These are sewn, so probably take about an hour each, with the cutting and sewing.
I have a batch of Pioneer Womans Christmas Cookies to roll out, cut out and bake. Yummy!
It would be nice if I could get to the post office tomorrow so I could pick up the mail.

hmmmmmmm...it's hot here in Western Australia, so I plan on turning on my air conditioner, grabbing a long, tall cool drink (perhaps alcoholic, who knows, but it will definately have a straw and a fancy umbrella!), and kicking back and doing some knitting.
